The workflow is pretty simple:

  1. Click into or hover over an empty paragraph box
  2. You will see a + icon in the right-hand side of this box
  3. Click on the + icon; this will open up a menu of embed options
  4. Select the Gallery option in the menu
  5. Select either Photo Gallery or Content Gallery depending on your needs

Don't worry about being stuck with one gallery; you can easily toggle the gallery format option once the gallery is inserted.

What is the Difference Between Photo Galleries and Content Galleries?

The Photo Gallery is intended to showcase image-focused content with minimal copy in a slideshow format.

The Content Gallery is intended to showcase both images and long form content in a slideshow format.

Visual Display of Galleries

Photo Gallery

The Photo Gallery displays inline in the body of the content. Once the user opens the gallery, they see the full-sized image in view and can pan through the images of the gallery using arrows and/or swiping on touch devices. The Photo Gallery format works perfectly across desktop, tablet, and mobile.

Content Gallery

The Content Gallery takes up the full column width of a post. Readers can easily engage and navigate through the Content Gallery without ever leaving the full post. This Content Gallery format works perfectly across desktop, tablet and mobile.

Syndication Channels and Galleries

Photo Gallery

This gallery format is directly translated in Facebook Instant Articles and Google AMP.

Content Gallery

Due to the constraints of Facebook Instant Articles and Google AMP environments, the gallery content will be presented sequentially as part of the body. This ensures that the integrity of your content and imagery is maintained in these environments.

Analytics for Galleries

Content Gallery data and Photo Gallery data will be reported to your Google Analytics in the same way; Each slide receives its own pageview.

In addition, publishers can now segment out their traffic to gauge performance by Page Type. This is done by using a Custom Dimension and setting up a Custom Report in Google Analytics.

For more information see Performance by Page Types in Google Analytics.

Managing Photo Galleries

Editing Photo Galleries

We have three separate views to make it easier to manage Photo Galleries: Gallery Information, List View, and Grid View.

The Gallery Information view allows users to set the Gallery Title and Gallery Caption. For Photo Galleries, there are no display options.

The List View allows users to easily manage each slide’s content including the photo, slide title, and slide body. Users can also drag and drop and/or use the arrows to re-order slides in this view.

The Grid View allows users to easily see all the slides of a gallery in sequential order. Users can also drag and drop to reorder slides from this view.

Writing Photo Galleries

We added the ability to use all text formatting options in slide content including: bold, italic, headings, lists, blockquotes etc. That said, the content for the Photo Gallery should be kept to a minimum. This is really intended for a short caption. The longer the content, the more likely it will overlap the image.

Managing Content Galleries

Editing Content Galleries

We have three separate views to make it easier to manage content galleries: Gallery Information, Slide View, and Grid View.

The Gallery Information view allows users to set the Gallery Title, Gallery Caption and/or manage the display options available. For Content Galleries, the only display option is whether or not to show thumbnails.

The Slide View allows users to easily manage each slide’s content including the photo, slide title, and slide body. Users can also page through the slides to see them in sequential order and mimic the reader’s experience.

The Grid View allows users to easily see all the slides of a gallery in sequential order. Users can also drag and drop to reorder slides from this view.

 Writing Content Galleries

We added the ability to use all text formatting options in slide content including: bold, italic, headings, lists, blockquotes etc. Users can also add embeds such as videos or music players to their slide content.
