Google News aims to organize all the world's news and make it accessible to its users, while providing the best possible experience for those seeking useful and timely news information. Tempest is well optimized for sites that are accepted to Google News. Here are some details on how to get into Google News and how to verify that your content is rendering correctly.
Acceptance to Google News
Google News has guidelines that must be met in order to be included in the Google News portal. Guidelines are provided here. If your site follows Google guidelines as well as Google news' general, technical, and quality guidelines, then you can apply for inclusion within the Google News Publisher Center. When you submit your site for Google News, make sure that the name of your site matches the site name associated with your sitemap. Sitemaps are available via the Google Search Portal and are available for all properties by appending [/sitemaps.xml] to your domain name.
NOTE: Tempest does not have control over acceptance to or rejection from Google News.
When partners first migrate to Tempest, your Site Producer will automatically submit a general sitemap to Google Search Console. In order for Google News to crawl the site, a separate Google News sitemap must be submitted that meets the appropriate technical guidelines for Google News.
To submit your sitemap, please visit Google Search Console.
- Hit Crawl in the left sidebar
- Select Sitemaps
- Click ADD/TEST sitemap in upper right hand corner
- Add /news-sitemap.xml
- Hit Submit
Once you are accepted to Google News, Google will automatically use the Google News sitemap available in the Google Search Portal.
Validate Your Site is included in Google News
To validate your articles are in Google's news index, visit the Google News homepage and run a site: search[site:example.com]. If you know that you have been included in Google News and your content is still not appearing, please submit a support ticket.
