How To: Apply a Quote

Pull Quotes

To apply a Pull Quote in the CMS, select the block level formatting menu > quote icon > PULL

The Pull Quote style will be applied to this block of text. It will automatically appear larger, hinting at its display on the reader side. Note that we always display based on defaults, we don't pull in specific site variables into the CMS editor which is why this text will never have things like a text transform, specific colors etc applied. Publishers can see their specific styles by previewing the content item.

Users can re-open the formatting tool to either turn this back into a paragraph, make it into a heading, set alignment against the quote – wrap right, wrap left, breakout – or to toggle this to a Blockquote instead.

While Pull Quotes do support alignment but please note that this is dropped to inline on mobile due to limited real-estate.

Pull Quotes also support text styling such as bold, italic and links.

Blockquotes

To apply a Blockquote in the CMS, select the block level formatting menu > quote icon > BLOCK

The Blockquote style will be applied to this block of text. It will automatically appear offset with a border to the left. This hints at our default display options but does not reflect any site level customization. For example, if a site were to disable the left border, this is not reflected in the editor since we do not port over any site specific stylings into the editor view. This is expected behavior. Publishers can see their specific styles by previewing the content item.

Users can re-open the formatting tool to either turn this back into a paragraph, make it into a heading, or toggle this to a Pull Quote instead.

Blockquotes by definition are "blocks" of content. As a result, we do not support any alignment options for Blockquotes ie. wrap-left, wrap-right, breakout. All Blockquotes are inline. We have preserved alignment for historical content but this is not supported moving forward.

All alignment for historical content is dropped to inline on mobile. Since we do not support alignment for any content created post-feature release, Blockquotes always appear inline across all device sizes.
