Summary
When a video is uploaded to the Tempest CMS, the middle frame is selected as the video thumbnail by default. This thumbnail image is presented on the video behind the play button. It is also used for the Promo Image (the image that is displayed on section landing pages and/or hub pages, as well as when the content is shared on social media).
There are a couple different ways to change this thumbnail image, which we will go over in the instructions below.
Option 1: Uploading a Custom Thumbnail
Step 1
Log in to the JWPlayer website and select "Videos" from the menu on the left side of the screen.
Step 2
Click on the name of the video you want to edit.
Step 3
On the page that opens, select the "Edit Thumbnail" option under the video display, then click "Replace Image" and select the image from your computer that you would like to use.
Note that, for optimal quality, images used should be atleast 1920px x 1080px.
Step 4
Use the large blue button in the bottom right corner of the video editor to save the uploaded thumbnail or, if you have changed your mind, click "Exit Without Updating" to void the changes.
Option 2: Using a Frame from the Video as a Thumbnail
Step 1
Log in to the JWPlayer website and select "Videos" from the menu on the left side of the screen.
Step 2
Click on the name of the video you want to edit.
Step 3
On the page that opens, select the "Edit Thumbnail" option under the video display, then click "Select from Video".
Step 4
On this page, each of the lines displayed under the video represents an image taken at a two second interval in the video. The first bar represents the screen that appears in the video at zero seconds (before the video is played), whereas, in the image below below, the middle bar represents the screen that is displayed in the video at the sixteen second mark. The time interval that is currently selected can be seen on the upper right side of the video editor.
Step 5
Use the large blue button in the bottom right corner of the editor to save the selected thumbnail or, if you have changed your mind, click "Exit Without Updating" to void the changes.
