Photo Gallery Best Practices

  • Have a keyword rich gallery title.
  • Have a keyword rich gallery caption.
  • Use rich terms/tags that would draw people over to more inline gallery content.
  • Have titles and captions for each photo.
  • Make sure all photos have alt text.
  • Use strong anchor text to hyperlink to related content.
  • Click the pencil in the bottom righthand corner of the photos to turn them into hyperlinks to more photo gallery content.
  • Inline gallery photo captions have the same formatting options as the composer. That means you can use bulleted and numbered lists and sub headers within your captions. This increases engagement for each photo and is an intelligent way to use keywords.

Why Use Inline Galleries?

Inline photo galleries no longer generate a pageview for each page in the gallery. The previous way of recording pageviews created reporting problems, specifically around RPMS. That said, inlines still garner the best engagement of any of our gallery types. They are optimized for mobile audiences and are a great way of increasing your SEO.

We have made the steps for creating the Inline gallery very similar to the other gallery types in Tempest (i.e. Content galleries, Photo galleries).  Simply choose the Inline gallery type instead of the other two choices. You will also be able to manually convert your existing galleries to this format.

  1. Choose to add a new block of content to your article
  1. Expand the selections and select Gallery
  2. You will now see 3 choices for Gallery. Choose Inline.
  3. Select the Photos you want to include
  4. Save the content and publish your page
  5. Publish the Article.

You can convert an existing Content Gallery or Photo Gallery to an Inline Gallery. The process is as follows:

1. Open the article containing the gallery you want to convert

2. Click the edit pencil in the bottom right corner

3. Choose the 2nd item from the left in the menu to change the Gallery type

4. Save the Gallery

5. Update/Re-publish the article

This can be done at any time.
