How To: Assign Authors and Contributors

When creating content such as articles in Tempest, it is possible to assign one or more authors and contributors to a single piece of content.

To add authors to a piece of content, open the content in Tempest and scroll down to the bottom of the page. There, you will see a tab title “Meta”. Click this to open the meta data settings for your piece, including the author settings. The Meta tab will look like this:

Assigning a Single Author

In the field labeled “Author”, click the drop-down menu and search for the name of the author you would like to assign to the content, then click on their name to select them.

The names in this list are sourced from the Author Profiles on the Tempest site. If you don’t see the name of the author you wish to assign, you can create an Author Profile with that name by following the steps in our guide How to: Create And Update An Author Profile.

Assigning Multiple Authors

If the content piece you are creating was created by multiple authors, you can add more authors by clicking the "+ Add additional contributor" button beneath the "Author" field in the Meta tab. This will open two new fields titled "Additional Contributor" and "Contributor Credit". Click the drop-down menu in the "Additional Contributor" field and search for the second author's name, then click it to select it. In the case of adding multiple authors, it is only necessary to select the author's name from the "Additional Contributor" field, and the "Contributor Credit" field should be left blank. In Tempest, the Meta tab should now look like this:

On a published article, an article credited to multiple authors would be displayed like this:

Assigning Contributors

When adding additional contributors, it is also possible to specify the contributors' roles in the content creation process by using the "Contributor Credit" field in the Meta tab. For example, this could be used to specify that an additional contributor edited the content, created the photos used in the piece, or was interviewed by the primary author. To add this to your content, click the "+ Add additional contributor" button beneath the "Author" field in the Meta tab to open the "Additional Contributor" and "Contributor Credit" fields. Click the drop-down menu in the "Additional Contributor" field and search for the contributor's name, then click it to select it (note that the names in this list are the names of the Author Profiles on your site in Tempest and contributors will require an Author Profile to be added to content).

Once the contributor's name is selected, click into the drop-down menu in the "Contributor Credit" field. This will show the Contributor Credits that have been added to your site. Click to select the one you would like to apply to this contributor. It will look like this in Tempest:

When published, the contributor credit would be displayed like this:

Contributor Credits are customizable and can be added to sites upon request. To request that a Contributor Credit be added to your site, please contact our Publisher Support team at pubsupport@maven.io and specify the Contributor Credit text you would like to appear on your content.
